Herzog and de Meuron de Young Museum San Francisco
A lot of people can get a little starstruck, and I do not pretend that I am not one of them. So, it was with much excitement that I visited the de Young Museum in San Francisco by Herzog and de Meuron. The entrance slices through the pressed metal facade next to a solitary colonnade of palm trees. So Californian! Then through the entrance square to a white interior, suitable for a gallery. At the building’s centre is a garden courtyard. I headed up to the lift to the viewing platform where, through overhangs of punctured metal sheets, the surrounding landscape is framed. What an adventure. A happy first-time indeed.
